Looking for a healthy treat to satisfy that sweet tooth. Now we are in the middle of the holidays. Christmas is over and my countertop still has a few goodies from our neighbors and friends. While all of it tasted so good, I really need something not quite so sweet. But I still want something good to eat. Over the past few weeks, I have gotten used to munching on things throughout the day and don’t forget that late night snack.
A healthy treat to satisfy the sweet tooth
I hunted through the kitchen to see what I could find that would satisfy my sweet tooth, and still be somewhat healthy. Hmm, I spied some apples in the bottom of the crisper drawer. I took out the butter and put a few tablespoons in the bottom of my frying pan. I peeled and cut up some of the apples. Remembering I better make some extra to share with my hubby.
I melted the butter in the bottom of the frying pan, added the peeled and cut up apples. I squirted a tablespoon of honey over the top (a healthy sugar), sprinkled it with cinnamon and nutmeg. (sprinkle to taste)
Pretty easy to cook
Let this mixture simmer on low until the apples were soft. When they have finished cooking I topped it with my favorite topping. This is the unhealthy part unless of course, you consider it is in the dairy group, ice cream or real whip cream. It actually tastes good without any toppings.
